Family & Childhood Portraits
Fine Art Family Portraits in Massachusetts | Chelmsford Portrait Studio
They're only this little for a little while. Fine art family portrait commissions — directed, unhurried, and designed to live on your wall for the next forty years.
Chelmsford · Westford · Concord · Acton · Greater Boston · Middlesex county
For parents who already feel it
"The days are long, but the years are gone before you know it."
A Chelmsford mother, 2024
You already know this. You feel it every time you scroll back through your phone and see how much they've changed — how small they used to be, how fast it's moving. The photos you have don't do it justice. Phone snapshots between bath time and bedtime were never meant to carry this much weight.
A fine art family portrait is different. It's unhurried. It's directed. It's designed to live on your wall for the next forty years — not in a folder you mean to print someday.
This is the portrait your children will find in boxes long after you're gone, and understand for the first time what your family looked like together when they were small.

More than a photo session
Your Family story,
told beautifully.
Every family commission begins with a Design Consultation — wardrobe, location, wall art vision — all planned before we pick up a camera. I direct every moment of your session so you never have to think about what to do next. You simply be present with each other.
The result is a portrait that looks like your family — not a version of your family performing for a camera. Genuine, warm, and exactly right for the walls of your home.

Outdoors or in the studio —
your family leads.
Every family is different. Some stories unfold best in the golden light of a New England autumn. Others belong in the calm of the studio. We choose together.

Studio Session
Timeless, dramatic, classically beautiful.
Shot in our Chelmsford studio with professional lighting and curated backdrops. Controlled, calm, and ideal for families with very young children or babies — where a predictable environment lets everyone relax into the session rather than manage the unpredictability of outdoors.
- Professional studio lighting — reveals texture, expression, and true connection
- Curated neutral and textured backdrops — timeless, not trendy
- Ideal for newborns, babies, and very young children
- Dramatic results — large-scale wall portraits with genuine depth

Outdoor Session
New England light, open space, your element.
Golden-hour sessions at curated locations throughout Greater Boston — Red Wing Reservation, Concord fields, Westford woodlands, private estates, and New England's seasonal landscapes. The outdoors brings out the most natural, joyful versions of every family.
-
Golden-hour natural light — warm, timeless, impossible to manufacture indoors
-
Seasonal New England settings — fall foliage, spring blooms, summer fields
-
Freedom of movement — especially wonderful for young children
-
Multiple curated locations to match your family's personality
What families tell me
The three things you're
probably thinking right now.
These are the objections I hear from nearly every family before they book — and what I've learned after 20 years of answering them.
01
"Our kids never cooperate for photos."
Neither do anyone else's — and that's precisely why you need a professional. I don't ask children to pose. I create the conditions for real moments: movement, laughter, connection. The images that matter most are never the ones where everyone is perfectly still. They're the ones that look like your actual family.
02
"We'll do it when the kids are a bit older"
Every year you wait is a year you can't get back. The baby who can't sit up yet. The toddler who mispronounces words in ways that make your heart ache. The six-year-old who still reaches for your hand. That version of your family exists only right now. Older is a different portrait — not a better one.
03
"We just want digital files.
I understand — it feels practical. But in fifteen years, your children won't inherit a Dropbox folder. They'll find the large canvas print in the hallway and understand, perhaps for the first time, what your family looked like when they were small. A wall portrait is the version of this moment that survives.

Portraits families treasure.
★★★★★
"We keep looking at our portrait on the wall and thinking — that was us, that exact year, that exact little version of our kids. Luciana captured something we didn't even know we were losing until we saw it printed large in our living room."
— The Wrocklage Family
★★★★★
"Luciana is an incredible photographer! She was extremely personable and fun to have our photo session with. I would absolutely recommend her work and would love to book another session in the future. Thank you for everything!"
— The Lahen Family
★★★★★
"The installation was the moment I broke down. Seeing our family — all four of us — on the wall of our home at that size, that quality. My husband keeps walking past it just to look. It's extraordinary work. Worth every single dollar."
— The Olsen Family

QUESTIONS
Everything before you book.
Still have questions? Reach out directly — happy to talk through the right session type for your pet.
What ages do you photograph?
All of them. Newborns, babies, toddlers, school-age children, teenagers, multigenerational families. Each age has its own approach — I've been doing this for 20+ years and know how to work with every stage. The sessions are relaxed and paced to your children, not a clock.
Where do family sessions take place?
Either in our Chelmsford studio or at outdoor locations throughout Greater Boston — Red Wing Reservation, Concord fields, Westford estates, private properties, and New England's seasonal landscapes. We choose together during the Design Consultation based on your family's personality and the look you want.
What is the investment for a family portrait?
Investment begins at $850. Most families invest between $850–$3,000 depending on the artwork selected. Digital-file-only packages are not offered — every commission results in wall art that lives in your home. Contact us for a full experience guide with pricing details.
What if our children won't cooperate?
This is the most common concern I hear — and it almost never becomes a problem. I work with children's natural energy, not against it. Sessions are unhurried and playful. I've photographed toddler meltdowns, shy babies, and reluctant teenagers. The most authentic portraits almost always come from the chaotic moments, not the posed ones.
Do you offer extended family or multigenerational sessions?
Absolutely — and they're among my favourite commissions. Grandparents with grandchildren, three-generation family portraits, holiday gatherings. These are the portraits that become family heirlooms. Contact me to discuss timing and location for larger groups.
What should we wear?
I send a detailed wardrobe guide after booking — colors that coordinate without matching, textures that photograph beautifully, and guidance on what to avoid. Wardrobe is discussed during the Design Consultation so nothing feels guessed-at on the day.
This version of your family
